To run the app on macOS Sierra and above , due to Translocation feature introduced on macOS Sierra, just unzip and move the app to other folder before running.

I've been fairly loyal to AVG for a few years now. Aside from that, there's no way that I'm aware of to put AVG into a performance mode so that it doesn't pull resources that I'd rather be using for other applications. It was very nice of the previous commenter to put up that step by step on using the older version Plain and simple.
